I’m Christel van Jaarsveld, a former teacher and someone who has spent years around young people trying to figure out what comes next. In that time I watched the same thing happen over and over in our schools.
A learner completes an assessment. A few weeks later they receive a set of results, a subject-choice form, and sometimes a label. And then they’re left standing with the paper in their hands, asking the one question nobody built a system to answer:
Where do I go? What do I actually do with this?
That gap, between receiving a result and knowing what to do with it, is the reason IDENTIQ exists.
We don’t believe a young person should be handed a definitive label at fourteen and sent on their way. You are not a score, and you are not finished. Who you are changes as you grow, and we’ve built this platform knowing that. So instead of a once-off verdict, IDENTIQ takes a holistic view of the whole learner: how you’re wired, what you care about, how you handle change, not only your skills or aptitude. And then it stays with you, helping you turn that understanding into informed choices along the way.
Our vision is for every South African high school learner to get to know themselves properly, and to be guided, not graded, through the path that lies ahead of them.
And because we know that no report can show you what a career actually feels like, our heart as the IDENTIQ team is to connect learners with real-life mentors and businesses, people already doing the work, so that you can see and experience what you’re choosing before you choose it. You won’t walk this journey alone. There’s a platform, and a lot of people on it, ready to help.

You’re completing this assessment before it goes live to schools. That makes you more than a participant. You’re helping us get it right for every learner who comes after you. So we’re asking two things of you: give honest answers, and give honest feedback.
Read every question properly
Throughout the whole assessment, stay alert to the wording of each question and each answer option. If something is confusing, unclear, or just doesn’t sound like how a learner would say it, make a note of it. That’s exactly what we need to hear.
Complete the feedback block after each section
At the end of every section you’ll find a short feedback block. Tell us what worked, what didn’t, and what you’d change. You’ll need to complete it before the next section unlocks, so please don’t leave it blank or rush it.
Give feedback on the report too
After you’ve read your report, there’s one final feedback block. Tell us whether it made sense, whether it felt like you, and whether you knew what to do next after reading it.
Take your time
There’s no timer and no right or wrong answers. Answer as the person you actually are, not the person you think you should be. Rushing gives you a report about someone else.
Find a quiet spot. Set aside around 45 minutes. Put your phone on silent. If you need to stop, your progress is saved. Come back and pick up where you left off.
